Today, we learn about Stephanie Baldwin, Contract Administration Assistant working out of our Calgary studio.
What is your role with S2, how long have you been with the firm, and what is your favourite part of your job?
My role at S2 is Contract Administration Assistant. My favourite part of my job is being part of the process to ensure a building is being properly constructed and being able to observe a project from start to finish – what once was a dirt pile is now an architectural masterpiece.
What have you learned about design/architecture from working at S2?
What I have learnt about Architecture is that there are so many different aspects for designing a building, from design to drawings to constructing. It is absolutely amazing the detail, time and effort that goes into this process. Only being here for two months I have so much more to learn and that makes me very excited..
How did you get into the field?
Although late in my career path, I wanted a change. Something different, something challenging. A career that would allow me to learn new skills and open doors for my education. So, while sitting around a campfire with Jane Kratochvil in the summer she had mentioned that S2 was looking for someone to fill the CA Assistant role. In the beginning it was intimidating however it has been the best decision for my educational and professional growth.
What work are you most proud of thus far in your career?
My previous employment has always been customer service based. From the Food Industry to Fire/Flood Restoration to Chiropractic Care. Providing customer service, understanding and being empathetic of different viewpoints and always being a positive person, have been life lessons for me to utilize in my everyday life.
What or who inspires your work?
In all honesty, my Husband inspires my work. When we first met in 2010 he was content with where he was in his career path, he had a cozy position with a retail company that he had been with for 18 years. After a year together he was given an opportunity to better him/us professionally and financially so with positive words and a “gentle” push from his late grandfather he got out of his comfort zone and took the leap. Well, that leap didn’t go as planned (not his doing) and stressful times were in front of us. With us together and strong, he started at United Rentals as an Inside Sales Rep, had to start from the bottom. Again. In his late 30’s, not where he expected to be at in life. With long hours and determination, he will be celebrating his 9th anniversary this January as a Branch Manager of the 5th largest branch in Alberta. Scott overcame hefty obstacles and challenged himself to be better than he was the day before and because of that he is where he is today. Which in return pushes me to be a better person every day.
My favourite restaurant in Calgary is
Bolero’s Brazilian BBQ. You must go on an empty stomach!
What do you do in your spare time?
My spare time consists of spending most of it with my 5-year-old German Shepherd Lambeau (named after Green Bay Packers playing field, not the car), who is my entire world! My husband and I also invested in a trailer last spring and spend much of our summer camping or playing slo-pitch.
What do you like best about working at S2?
What I like best about working at S2, besides the unlimited amount of knowledge I am gaining, is the culture here which is incredible. At S2 employees are their top priority. S2 goes above and beyond to ensure the happiness and positivity of their staff.
