Today, we learn about Eric Klatt, our Manager, Production and Technical Services; working out of our Edmonton studio. Eric recently celebrated his five year anniversary with S2 - congratulations Eric!

What is your role with S2; how long have you been with the firm and what is your favourite part of your job?
I'm the Manager, Production and Technical Services; working in the Edmonton office and collaborating with Calgary and Vancouver for 5 years. My favourite part of my job is the opportunity to be involved in a variety of projects as a problem-solver, working alongside the project teams to find creative solutions to all types of challenges.

What do you like most about design and architecture?

Every project is unique, and design and building technology are constantly evolving. It never gets boring.

How did you get into the field?
Lego, sandcastles, and grid paper; a career in architecture was a natural progression.

What work are you most proud of thus far in your career?

My contributions to work in the emergency services sector – the Fort McKay Fire Hall, Windermere Fire Station, Nanaimo Fire Station, and others. Fire and emergency response stations are multifaceted; they can be a home, a workplace, and a community hub. It has been very rewarding to contribute to these projects and the people and communities they serve.

What or who inspires your work?
The people that will experience the buildings and places we design. Every decision and detail needs to be considered within the context of that future experience.

What is your favourite restaurant in Edmonton?
OTTO Food and Drink. Great food and hospitality, just north of downtown.

When I'm not working I'm...
...working on a slow-moving renovation of a 1950’s bungalow and garden. When I’m out, hiking, biking, and finding new restaurants to try.

What do you like best about working at S2?
Opportunity and potential: exciting, diverse projects and an immensely talented team working towards a single goal: great architecture. The rooftop patio is not bad, either.
