Dynamic Workspace For a Collaborative and Evolving Team

S2 Architecture led and coordinated a 314,850 square feet multi-phased re-stack encompassing 15 floors at the Commerce Place building in downtown Edmonton, commissioned by Alberta Infrastructure. The project addressed the evolving workplace needs of the Government of Alberta, enhancing spatial efficiency, fostering collaboration, and accommodating future growth. Phase 2, completed in May 2023, focused on the design of Levels 19, 20, and 24.

Level 19 features a Dynamic Model Office suite strategically located for optimal access and visibility. The design includes unique features such as a private washroom, a dedicated Java station, and an adjacent Executive boardroom. On Level 24, spanning 20,990 sf., a pioneering Activity Based (Mobile) Work Space was created. The expansive area integrated the principles established in Phase 1 with additional insights and recommendations for AI furniture procurement to optimize Activity Based Workplace functionality.

Level 24 contains a blend of focused workspaces, meeting rooms, open lounges, collaborative seating, and mobile Framery focus/phone pods. Custom meeting nooks featuring perforated millwork screens and synthetic plants brought a sense of nature indoors. S2’s holistic approach underscores the firm’s expertise in advancing planning concepts for functional and aesthetically pleasing work environments.
