Working with Truman Developments, S2 was commissioned to explore redevelopment options for the West Hillhurst site. Along with the home of the new Kensington Legion building, a separate 10-storey mixed-use development containing both residential and retail spaces is envisioned. The building will provide new housing options and community amenities reshaping the urban landscape of the area. The proposed building contains over 26,640 sf (2,475 sq m) of retail space on the lower level, including a boutique organic grocery store, and approximately 213,878 sf (19,870 sq m)of residential units ranging from one-bedroom suites to penthouse units. Several innovative design elements include a roof-top podium and garden that cover the at-grade delivery and commercial parking space on the north side of the development, as well as the striking stepped profile of the building that reduces shadows in an effort to minimize the impact on neighbours.
