S2 Architecture and Pilgrim’s Hospice Society partnered to create the Roozen Family Hospice Centre, a 12-bed facility that provides compassionate end-of-life care and support services to patients, families and the wider community. This collaboration aims to offer a serene residential hospice where patients can receive the care they need while ensuring that families and the community have access to educational opportunities.
Unveiled in December 2020, this remarkable Centre is 2,700 square meters, featuring carefully designed spaces that emulate a home-like environment that eases the emotional burden of end-of-life care.
The main goal was to create a residential space that emanates peace, serenity, and dignity, benefiting residents, their families, and the community at large. The challenge in end-of-life care is maintaining a homely atmosphere while adhering to stringent infection prevention and control guidelines. This balance was achieved by making sensible choices in finishes and materials.
The Roozen Family Hospice Centre spreads across two above-grade floors connected by a central support area. Each resident room on the main floor is positioned to maximize access to natural light and outdoor views, creating a therapeutic atmosphere. On the second floor, you can find various facilities, including dining areas, a family-style kitchen, administrative offices, and counselling areas. The basement level, illuminated by expansive window wells, is reserved for community programs. The design of the hospice centre is barrier-free, meaning that residents with limited mobility and those in need of extensive care can easily access the facility.
The Roozen Family Hospice Centre is a model for compassionate end-of-life care, setting a high standard in residential hospice design.
