Compassionate Hospice Care in a Home-Like Setting
S2 Architecture partnered with Pilgrim’s Hospice Society to design the Roozen Family Hospice Centre, a 12-bed, 2,700 m² facility providing compassionate end-of-life care and support for patients, families, and the broader community.
As the first standalone hospice in Edmonton, the centre was envisioned as a peaceful, residential environment that balances dignity and comfort with the clinical requirements of care. S2 provided Prime Consulting, Architecture, and Interior Design services, creating a barrier-free facility that thoughtfully supports mobility, accessibility, and infection prevention standards while maintaining a warm, home-like atmosphere.
The program includes private resident rooms, dining areas, a family-style kitchen, counselling and administrative spaces, and dedicated community program areas. Guided by a human-centred design approach, the project fosters connection, eases the emotional burden of care, and sets a high standard for residential hospice environments.
