Where Recreation, Wellness, and Community Come Together

The Village, Glacier Ridge’s Residents Association is a contemporary community hub designed to support year-round recreation and social connection for the growing Glacier Ridge neighbourhood in northwest Calgary. Conceived as a highly legible and welcoming facility, the building anchors itself within the landscape while providing strong visual and physical connections between indoor spaces and outdoor amenities. The approximately 2,395 sq m facility brings together a gymnasium, fitness studios, banquet hall, multipurpose rooms, administrative offices, and a resident-operated cantina. A clear organizational strategy separates public, semi-public, and service functions while maintaining flexibility for evolving community needs. Large areas of glazing, warm soffit materials, and a strong horizontal roof form create an inviting civic presence and reinforce intuitive wayfinding throughout the site.

Sustainability and context were key drivers of the design. The building massing responds to site topography and solar orientation, while material inspiration drawn from glacier stratification informs the architectural expression. Outdoor amenities, pedestrian-focused arrival spaces, and a green roof further integrate the facility into its surroundings and support active community use.
