Role summary

This technologist role will prepare detailed contract documents, including drawings and specifications, under direction of senior staff within a team environment. The individual must have a thorough understanding of the processes of conceptualization, design and implementation of buildings as well as the technological aspects of building design from an engineering and construction standpoint. 

What you will require:

Education, Licenses & Certifications:

  • Architectural Technology diploma
  • Engineering Design and Drafting diploma and/or Autodesk Revit training certificate from a recognized post-secondary institution

Experience:

  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in the design/architectural/engineering industry
  • Post-Secondary Diploma from an accredited school or Architectural Technology Program
  • Training in architectural technology, building technical design and construction

What you will work on:

  • Establish and maintain project schedules and work plans
  • Provides support to design staff during design phases
    • Assists in preparation of design drawings
  • Assist and / or prepares architectural contract documents following company standards
    • Conducts on-site verifications of as-built conditions
    • Creates mark-ups and sketches for input into drawings
    • Prepares appropriate documentation for Building Permit applications
    • Communicates and responds to authorities having jurisdiction
    • Reviews and coordinates contract documents from various disciplines (ie: structural, mechanical, electrical)
  • Provides support through contract administration phase
    • Review shop drawings
    • Assists with contract administration paperwork
    • Carries out implementation of record drawings at project close-out
  • Works independently on smaller projects with minimal support
  • Keeps supervisor informed of progress and issues as they arise
  • Provides guidance and leadership to junior staff as appropriate
  • May be required to pick up/drop off permit applications at the applicable authority having jurisdiction
  • Runs prints and photocopies as required
  • May be required to assist in general office duties on occasion
  • May be required to provide support or assist with various tasks at various skills levels as may be required for project and / or firm success

You will need knowledge competencies: 

  • Intermediate understanding of building, fire and energy codes
  • Intermediate understanding of design and construction process
  • Intermediate understanding of specifications 
  • Intermediate understanding of building materials and installation methods
  • Intermediate understanding of local authority process
  • Intermediate understanding of architectural document preparation and layout
  • Intermediate understanding of building envelope and principals
  • Intermediate understanding of detailing
  • Proficient at drawing sheet set up, annotating and dimensioning utilizing Autodesk Revit software

You will need technical competencies:

  • Autodesk Revit
  • Autodesk AutoCAD
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • Bluebeam REVU
