To continue to deliver on its mandate to “provide exceptional facilities to its members and their families,” this private, member-owned Club was in need of an update. The interior renovation, executed by Calgary-based S2 Architecture, focused on upgrading three primary areas: a larger Club Café with increased seating and larger Kitchen with a more efficient front of house service counter; a Meeting/Party Room & Kid’s Play Area with additional amenity space; and the Curling Lounge with enhanced ice views, distinct entry and amenity enhancements.

In order to meet the key renovation objectives, the last two sheets of curling ice needed to be demolished. A raised floor was constructed over the northernmost section to expand the Club Café and add the Meeting/Party Room. The existing elevation was maintained at the Southern section to accommodate the new play structure in the Kid’s Play Area. A new stair and lift were incorporated for accessibility and ease of transferring strollers between the tiered spaces.  Construction started in May 2020 and was completed in April of 2021.

The Club Café doubled in size with an increased seating capacity from 60 to 172. A custom banquette seating features wipeable upholstery, a crumb sweep, and pop-up USB ports and electrical outlets for ease of maintenance and user convenience. New modern freestanding furniture was incorporated for flexibility.

The service counter was expanded including 3 POS stations, oversized digital menu displays, and new grab-and-go coolers for improved service flow and increased revenue potential. The new custom illuminated steel mesh canopy emphasizes items for purchase. The back of house kitchen was expanded and outfitted with modern commercial kitchen equipment for optimized functionality and efficiency.

A distinct Curling Lounge was created by narrowing the corridor and introducing a private entry featuring a walnut portal with trophy displays. Illuminated walls, custom broom storage, a curved bar, and a central soft seating/fireplace zone upgraded the amenity space. The combination of white surfaces complimented by simple lines, walnut accents and blackened steel elements served to modernize and brighten up the space. Full height glazing along the entire Club Café and Curling Lounge perimeters provides enhanced views to the ice and between spaces.

Additional amenity space was provided with a 2,000-sq.-ft. Kid’s Play Area and a bookable Meeting/Party Room for 16.
