BMO Centre has been Calgary’s premier venue for consumer and trade shows, special events, meetings and conferences since its opening in 1982. Valued at $500 million, BMO Centre’s newest expansion will increase its total floor space to nearly one million square feet, more than doubling its rentable space. When the expansion is complete, BMO Centre will be the second-largest meeting facility in Canada (after the Toronto Convention Centre) and will give Calgary top-tier destination status in the competitive international meetings and conventions market.
In collaboration with Stantec and Populous Inc, S2 is leading Phases 1 and 2 of the work by facilitating, coordinating and executing the Enabling works and Demolition stages of the project. The Enabling work encompasses preparing the existing structure for the multiple stages of modifications to allow for demolition and temporary facilities while the new building is under construction. In Phase 3 – the expansion - S2’s role extends as the Construction Administration Lead to maintain continuity through all stages of construction.
Our work in Phases 1 and 2 encompasses navigating ten Tender packages overlapping through the different stages of construction and demolition, and to date, the demolition package is over 100 pages. As the Construction Administration Lead, S2 will also manage five additional sequential Tender packages though the construction of Phase 3.
