S2 Architecture is thrilled to see Kelowna City Council’s enthusiastic endorsement of the BC Housing development proposed for 1451 Bertram Street. As architects dedicated to creating sustainable, livable communities, this project sets a precedent for future housing initiatives in the province.

The 20-storey, 176-unit rental-only building received praise for its family-friendly design, which includes amenity spaces, a 39-space childcare facility and numerous three-bedroom units, a much-needed addition to the downtown core. BC Housing has allocated 114 units in the building as below-market rentals, making quality housing accessible to a broader range of individuals and families. Councillor Loyal Wooldridge remarked, “This is a project for me that hits it out of the park, and to make it affordable is amazing.” The inclusion of townhomes at street level further integrates the project into the surrounding community.

We echo the article’s sentiment that this project has the potential to be a flagship for the province of British Columbia. It showcases how thoughtful planning and design elevate quality of life. S2 Architecture is proud to be part of this project and is excited to see it come to fruition.
