Designed for Tomorrow

The City of Lloydminster Public Works Operations Centre features offices, training spaces, a cafeteria, and open workstations. This new facility brings together various departments of the City of Lloydminster, including Parks, Building Operations, Engineering, Fleet & Shop, Infrastructure Services, Planning, Public Works, Roads, and Water Works.

The design concept reflects the uniqueness of the border city, incorporating stylized abstractions of the city’s border markers evident in the canted exterior glazing, the shape of the reception desk, and various angled details throughout the interior. The finishes are neutral and natural, paying homage to Lloydminster’s agricultural and petroleum heritage.

Each space within the building was created with adaptability and growth in mind. A large area on the second floor is intentionally left open for future expansion, allowing for a layout similar to that of the main floor. Training rooms are equipped with movable furniture and multiple access points for electrical services, facilitating both large and small sessions. Additionally, large meeting rooms within the office areas are designed to allow future conversion into offices if needed.

The main training room is also designed to serve as a backup Crisis Management Centre, featuring increased generator capacity, additional data and power connections, and interconnectivity for both internal building use and external personnel from the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT).
