Where Recreation, Wellness, and Community Come Together
The Village, Glacier Ridge’s Residents Association, is a contemporary community hub designed to support year-round recreation and social connection in northwest Calgary’s growing Glacier Ridge neighbourhood. Positioned as a welcoming and easily navigable facility, the building is carefully integrated into the landscape, creating strong visual and physical connections between indoor spaces and surrounding outdoor amenities.
The approximately 2,395 sq m facility brings together a range of programs, including a gymnasium, fitness studios, banquet hall, multipurpose rooms, administrative offices, and a resident-operated cantina. A clear organizational strategy distinguishes between public, semi-public and service areas while allowing flexibility to adapt to evolving community needs. Expansive glazing, warm soffit materials and a strong horizontal roofline establish an inviting civic presence and support intuitive wayfinding throughout the site.
Sustainability and context were central to the design approach. The building massing responds to the site’s topography and solar orientation, while material cues inspired by glacier stratification inform its architectural expression. Outdoor amenities, pedestrian-focused arrival spaces and a green roof further connect the facility to its surroundings and encourage active community use.
