The BMO Centre has been the premier venue for consumer and trade shows, special events, meetings, and conferences in Calgary since its establishment in 1982. With an estimated value of $500 million, the latest expansion project has nearly doubled the Centre’s total floor space, making it the second-largest meeting facility in Canada, just behind the Toronto Convention Centre. This transformation has positioned Calgary as a top-tier destination in the competitive international meetings and conventions market.
S2 collaborated with Stantec and Populous Inc. to lead Phases 1 and 2 of the expansion project. Our role involved overseeing, coordinating, and executing the enabling works and demolition stages. The enabling work consisted of preparing the existing structure for multiple modifications, allowing for demolition and the establishment of temporary facilities while the new building was under construction. In Phase 3, S2 took on the role of Construction Administration Lead, ensuring a seamless transition across all stages of construction.
During Phases 1 and 2, our team navigated ten overlapping tender packages throughout the different stages of construction and demolition. As the Construction Administration Lead, S2 also managed an additional five sequential tender packages during the construction of Phase 3. S2 is honoured to have been part of this monumental project that has transformed Calgary’s event landscape.
