The District of Squamish engaged S2 to lead the design for the Public Works Building, which shares a site with the existing Waste Water Treatment Facility (WWTP). The existing Public Works maintenance and office buildings have outgrown their current building capacity and must be expanded to meet the growing space requirements.
The District of Squamish is looking to add capacity at the Public Works Operations Yard as the existing facilities have outlived its life expectancy and are too small to accommodate current and future operations and equipment. In Pre-Design phase, the project team assessed the option to either renovate and expand the existing Maintenance Building and demolish the existing office and add a new Administration Office Building; or demolish both the existing Maintenance Building and Administration Office Building and then build new for both.
The site presents challenges as it is in a flood hazard zone, irregular shape, and tight spacing because of existing facilities. Another potential challenge is the site is in an ecologically sensitive region.
