Maple is an independent living facility for seniors located in Calgary’s University District. This four-story development features 95 one- and two-bedroom units, designed with a strong emphasis on accessibility, including barrier-free washrooms. A key aspect of the property is its abundant outdoor green spaces, allowing residents to enjoy extensive landscaping, courtyards, walkways, and bike paths.
In collaboration with the Brenda Strafford Foundation’s Cambridge Manor Seniors Care Campus, the design and site planning of Maple incorporate best practices in urban design and connectivity. A notable feature is the plus-30 pedway that links Maple to the Cambridge Manor Continuing Care Campus, facilitating shared amenities and fostering community integration between residents of both facilities.
The design aligns with the University District’s commitment to sustainable practices, incorporating elements such as Built Green standards and a ‘feet first’ approach to multi-modal circulation, prioritizing pedestrian access. Maple is part of the University District’s LEED Platinum Neighbourhood Development, the first community in Alberta to achieve this designation.
Together with Cambridge Manor, Maple represents a true aging-in-place community where seniors can live independently while benefiting from easy access to amenities, recreational activities, and social opportunities.
